BASIC FOOD SAFETY AND HYGIENE TRAINING

In an effort to uphold the utmost standards of food safety, 13 participants from the Philippine International School-Qatar consisting of Canteen Personnel, School Nurses, Home Economics/TLE teachers and other office staff recently completed Basic Food Safety and Hygiene Training on November 10, 2023. The training, conducted by Doha Industry Safety Services took place at Al Hilal, Doha, Qatar.

The aim of the course is to develop knowledge about principles and practices of food hygiene in catering and to ensure compliance with local authority food safety requirements. The training started with an in-depth exploration of bacteria and food poisoning, wherein the participants were informed of the various pathogens capable of contaminating food and causing harm to consumers.

Understanding the critical link between personal hygiene and food safety, the participants learned basic hand washing practices, the importance of wearing clean uniforms, and the importance of reporting illnesses as soon as possible. The core focus of the training revolved around providing practical knowledge regarding the implementation of safe food handling and storage practices, efficient cleaning and sanitization protocols, cross- contamination prevention measures, and the maintenance of suitable temperatures during both food preparation and storage.

 

Upon the completion of the Basic Food Safety and Hygiene Training, the participants have acquired a complete understanding of foodborne illnesses, personal hygiene, and the implementation of safe food handling practices. They are now more proficient in supplying PISQ community with tasty and consistently safe meals.
